PART 3
Cordelia rushed into the foyer, her face pale, holding a half-empty champagne glass. “This is a mistake! You can’t do this to my son! We own this house! His ex-wife signed it over willingly!”
“She did,” the lead attorney replied with an icy smile. “And by accepting it through coercion during divorce proceedings, your son didn’t just inherit a corporate lien. He also triggered the secondary clause my client activated three days ago.”
“What secondary clause?!” Flynn yelled, his hands trembling violently as he tried to call his personal lawyer, only to realize his line had been disconnected due to the asset freeze.
“The personal guarantee clause,” the attorney explained smoothly. “To satisfy the corporate lien, Vance Holdings has seized all linked personal assets—including your primary bank accounts, your commercial business equity, and the secondary property in the city you purchased using marital funds.”
Flynn dropped his phone onto the marble floor, where the glass shattered.
Just then, a sleek black sedan pulled into the driveway behind the armored SUVs. The rear door opened, and I stepped out, leaning lightly on my cane, my leg still in a surgical boot. Phoebe walked beside me, carrying a leather briefcase.
Cordelia gasped, her eyes wide with pure hatred. “You! You set us up!”
“I didn’t set you up, Cordelia,” I said, walking slowly up the front steps into the foyer of my grandfather’s estate. “I gave you exactly what you shoved me down the stairs for. You wanted the house. You demanded the deed. You just never bothered to read the fine print.”
Flynn fell to his knees on the marble floor where I had bled two weeks ago. “Sloan… please! Talk to them! Tell them to stop this! I’m your husband!”
“Ex-husband,” I corrected flatly. “And you stepped over me while I begged for help. You let your mother push me down those stairs so you could take my grandfather’s legacy.”
“I made a mistake, Sloan! We can fix this! I’ll give the house back to you!” Flynn pleaded, tears welling in his eyes as he reached for the hem of my coat.
I took a step back. “You can’t give it back, Flynn. The lien was triggered the moment your name was recorded at the county clerk’s office. You owe my grandfather’s trust five million dollars. And since you can’t pay it, the trust is foreclosing today.”
Federal Marshals began placing evidence tags on the high-end furniture, artwork, and personal belongings in the foyer.
