Nothing Phone 2a

nothing phone 2a

The third smartphone from Nothing was formally announced in the company’s quarterly report for February 2024. It appears that the Nothing Phone 2a will prioritize the “optimal daily smartphone experience,” taking cues from Phone 2 and offering a definite improvement over Phone 1 in every way.

Images from patent filings appear to show a completely different design from the current Nothing lineup, albeit it still has a transparent back and glyph lighting. Aim for MediaTek internals as well.

The young company has invited people to an event at Mobile World Congress 2024 in February, where the handset may or may not be completely shown. We were tipped off to the first hardware details, with a second launch to come later, according to rumors.

The new phone should be an entry-level device, which makes sense. In July, Phone 1 will turn two years old, so it could be time to retire it. It will probably be another year before the more expensive Phone 2 needs to be upgraded.

For the foreseeable future, Nothing should continue to offer Phone 2, which is among the greatest mid-rangers available:

Xiaomi 14 series

Xiaomi 14 series

Xiaomi typically releases its next-generation smartphones in December, with the Chinese market getting access to them first, followed by a wider release in the spring of the following year. This pattern was broken in 2023 when the company unveiled the first of its next generation smartphones in conjunction with chipmaker Qualcomm’s yearly Snapdragon Summit in October.

The cause? They were among the first phones to use the brand-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, which offers amazing AI intelligence right on the handset in addition to enhanced speed, efficiency, and photographic brilliance. Both devices have screens with extremely high 3000 nits of peak brightness; the Xiaomi 14 has a 6.36-inch panel, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro has a 6.73-inch screen. The Pro also has a titanium frame that mimics the design of the iPhone 15. Each features three back cameras, but the Pro’s variable aperture technology helps in low light conditions.

At Mobile World Congress, China was first in line, and the rest of the world was supposed to follow suit, but only for the vanilla model. Since then, Xiaomi has raised the bar even further on the hardware front with the launch of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in its native country. For lovers of expensive phones, there are rumors that this one will be released globally.

You can still get a Xiaomi 13 or Xiaomi 13 Pro till then; they’re both among the greatest phones available for taking pictures.

Honor Magic 6 Pro

Honor Magic 6 Pro

The Honor Magic 6 Pro, another smartphone that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit affirmed, eventually went on sale in China in January 2024. Honor had hinted to a major announcement, and it has now been confirmed that a global launch will take place during Mobile World Congress.

It has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, of course. Using that chip, it will introduce “Magic Capsule,” an information pill at the top of the screen that tracks eye movements and appears to have been influenced by Apple’s Dynamic Island. Featuring a big primary snapper and a massive 180MP periscope zoom lens, photography continues to be a major component of the product.

The Magic 5 Pro, which is currently available for less than RRP, is still among the phones with the greatest cameras:

Asus Zenfone 11

Asus Zenfone 11

As one of the few manufacturers that hasn’t given up on the sub-6.5-inch screen size, Asus is normally counted on to release a pocket-friendly phone in the first few months of the year. That was the case, at least, in the past. According to all current rumors, the Zenfone 11 will be an Ultra model—basically, a rebranded ROG Phone 8.

This translates to a massive 6.78-inch screen, a triple back camera configuration, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 engine. Will there be a scaled-down equivalent as well? Unless anything goes wrong, Apple and Samsung would have no competition in the little phone market, so we’re crossing our fingers.

Apple iPhone 16 series

Apple iPhone 16 series

Both a new iteration of iOS and new Apple silicon appear probable. Additionally, we’re expecting that the 5x telephoto lens from the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available on the more portable iPhone 16 Pro.

The one that will delight all Apple enthusiasts. Early September 2024 will most likely see the release of the iPhone 16 lineup, which will include many sizes and at least one Pro model. Other than the fact that Apple, like the rest of the phone industry, appears to be investing heavily in AI this year, not much information is available at this time.
